5 Email Conversion Hacks to Double Your Ecommerce Clicks & Sales

5 Email Conversion Hacks to Double Your Ecommerce Clicks & Sales

Not every email that glitters is gold.

As a VP of Email, SMS and Retention for the top brands, I’ve seen some gorgeous emails.

I mean really breathtaking ones.

But 90% of them barely get clicks and hardly convert.

I’ve sent over a billion emails and generated $375M for our 100+ clients all by using one goal:

Doubling clicks that lead to double the email conversions.

Unfortunately, most brands settle for GORGEOUS emails that get .5% clicks and .2% email conversion rates for one reason only:

The emails make them feel good.

Yet if it made the customer feel good, they’d buy.

So after analyzing hundreds of brands via our audits, I’ve zeroed in on the top 5 reasons why your emails aren’t converting.

If you want to double your clicks and email conversions, rethink the pedestrian tips of the copywriters and designers.

And follow the advice of a 10-figure email & SMS marketer who wrote the book & Masterclass on it.

Let’s get into it…

Reason #1 – Your Segmentation is Horrible.

Before you dive into why your emails don’t click (literally) with your customers, dive into your segmentation.

Are you even sending the right email to the right person.

Remember our strategy:

Right person, right message, right time, repeat.

If you’re bunching all your segments into one email (like this below), your message will not resonate.
No clicks = no conversions = no $$$.

Start with smart segmentation per campaign, not one size fits all.

Reason #2 – Your Emails are Just Branding.

A lot of brands like to “brand” their message in the face of shoppers.

Here’s why that’s pointless.

First, the attention span of an email is 6 seconds.

It’s even shorter on mobile.

So what branding exactly are we talking about?

Second, let’s say your branded emails are gorgeous.

Brands STILL send that same email to everyone.

And there’s no personalization.

Above is what Blendjet sends to me after I browsed a totally different product.
If Blendjet “blended” the gorgeous styles with personalization, they’d have a killer email program.

Right now, they’re probably seeing .5% clicks.

Spend less time branding and more time personalizing creatives to every type of customer.

I’ll show you how to do it on my MachX Email Masterclass.

Reason #3: You Have No Personalization.

If you’ve done your segmentation but haven’t achieved personalization, stop sending emails.

If you don’t personalize your emails, that’s no better than batch & blast.

Focus on connecting with the segment on a 1:1 level.

See the sample mockup above on a 9-figure case study we have.

Before, this 9-figure brand would send one email to their engaged list.

We came in and said WHY.

Send different creatives + different products + different tone / copy / subject lines to each segment.

Because segmentation + personalization is how you win.

So they did.

And they made 70% more revenue with 50% fewer sends.

Why aren’t you doing it? Or other brands out there?

Because it’s freaking hard and time-consuming.

But that’s why they hired us!

Reason #4: You Don’t Do Any Testing.

The law of diminishing returns = doing the same emails every day.

You’re probably stuck in the hamster wheel of trying to make money every day by sending emails.

Or obsessing over the copy, design and subject lines.

When your time is better spent analyzing results & insights.

That starts with testing.

Go back to the screenshot above.

We tested that creative campaign 8 to 12 more times before calling the strategy a winner.

You may see the screenshot. But the client saw the data.

And with the right data, they made better decisions.

The brand wins, the customer wins and the bottom line wins.

Do more testing. Make more money.

Reason #5: You’re Not Using Your Website Correctly

A great email doesn’t simply rest in the inbox.

It creates clicks. Clicks = indicators that customers like what you sent them.

And conversions ONLY happen when a click happens.

So what is your linking strategy to get them to convert as soon as they click?

Most brands don’t think about that at all.

So they link back to the homepage or a blog post or a non-converting page.

Look above at how Wayfair does it.

Each email talks about the products I LOVE and links back to a different places every time.

I don’t get distracted by fluffy design or reading stuff.

I get in, check out and get on with my day.

Talk about a high converting email series.

Customers know what they want and only want to SEE what they want.

So deliver it within the email and in the link they click.

Disappoint them and they’ll leave for the competition.
